InDesign

19/11/2015 - Process and Production

This was my second InDesign session and I enjoyed this one more than the last one because in this one, we went into details on how to play around with text and image.

I did find it hard at times because of the amount of work I had to do to produce a certain image for example, I had to use other software like Photoshop to edit the image so I was combining the use of two software.

What I have learned......I learned the 'file - place' feature where instead of opening a new document for an image, it allows me to direct and control the image to where I want it to go, what size and I can create a frame for it and insert it in there which I find it useful as I was dealing with images most of the time.
I also learned another feature that I thought was useful which was 'text wrap', I could wrap text around an image so it allows me to place the image anywhere I want without worrying about having to change the text and I think it looks neat.

This is what I have produced with what I have learned in this session...... I created two templates of what I have learned but I decided to use various different techniques for each.

For this one, I used the 'text wrap' feature to get the text wrap around the large mouse and for the little mouse, I still used 'text wrap' but used a different feature so the text is placed on top and bottom of the image. I created the mouse using Illustrator and made it look a bit like a cut out. I used the 'place' feature to insert the mouse into a frame and onto my page.
I used the ruler so I could effectively place certain things that I wanted in line with each other like, for example, the word 'The' and the text box below it.

For this one, I made it look like the inside of a magazine. The 'Ronaldinho' text was made using another feature that I have learned which is called 'Create Outlines' which allowed me to move and drag specific areas of the text as shown with the 'R' in Ronaldinho.

The image was made using Photoshop, I used the grey scale feature to make the image look grey then I uploaded it on InDesign and I used InDesign to change the colour.
I experimented with the yellow rectangles by placing them infront or behind an image or text by using the 'send and bring' feature like 'bring to front'.
I used the grids and rulers to make everything equally and in line with each other.

My opinion..... I thought that this session was useful. I think it will help me in the near future because I'm now quite confident in using text and image to produce a piece, I have learned things that are more than just basic, I know how to use certain features that I need when I need to use them. I know how to use other software to help me with InDesign and combine them together especially when I have to edit an image.
