After Effects #5

 14/04/2016 - Process and Production

Fish from Daniel Boscarino on Vimeo.

In this session, we had to create a fish character which some parts of it had to move. For me to achieve that, I had to create it in Illustrator so that I can could different layers and create each body part separately.

I used the 'Ellipse tool' to create the body and eye of the fish and used the 'polygon tool' to create the triangles for the tail and fin and I gave stripes to it to give more character to it. I had to create different layers for each body instead of using one layer otherwise the body parts wouldn't have uploaded separately in After Effects.

I added background to it to make it look like the fish is underwater and I made it as close to the sea as possible by using dark blue and adding seaweed and a rock.

I used the 'position' tool under 'transform' to make the fish move from one side to the other, I used the same tool to make the seaweed move slightly so that the fish wasn't the only thing moving. I used the 'scale' tool under 'transform' to make the tail change size as it moves
to make it look like the fish is using its tail to swim which I also used the 'position' tool to make it travel with the body.

I felt like the animation was missing something so I decided to add a starfish and a hook, anything that relates to the sea and fish. I created the starfish and hook on Illustrator, the same way as the fish. Since the animation has a playful feel to it, I decided to add a smiley face on the starfish and include credits at the end with something on it to make the audience laugh abit.

In conclusion, I am happy but not pleased at the same time. I'm not pleased because I feel like the animation looks abit too childish, I could have designed the characters to make them look as real as possible but other than that, I like how the video looks, the flow of it is nice, I did have problems with the tail and the body because they weren't moving perfectly together but I fixed that.
My favourite part is the credits because I find it slightly amusing and it's a great way to end the playful animation.
