Convergence - 'Convergence is an ambiguous term used by various disciplines to describe and analyse processes of change toward uniformity or union' - Media Convergence, Michael Latzer.
Key words
- Multi discipline - People from different art disciplines working together.
- Inter discipline/Integrated - Integrating methods together from different art disciplines.
- Cross discipline - Viewing one art discipline from the view of another discipline.
I think Convergence is needed in art because it combines the various types of techniques together to produce a piece that wouldn't have happened without convergence and at times, it feels like one can't work without the other. There's a part from the presentation where it's two guys producing an installation but what I like about it is that they were two completely different types of artist/designer, not only the techniques they worked with but also, the time between the techniques in the sense of when they were first used, for example, one of the guys was into carving and produced stuff out of it which is a very old process and been around for years and the other guy was more into technology, making things move so you had a contrast out of the two but together, it worked perfectly.
What I have learned is that just because there's a contrast, that doesn't mean it won't work. I could relate this to my work because there were times in the past that I thought about combining two techniques or mediums but didn't as I thought it wouldn't work well together without even trying it out but from now on, I will, I will bend them together which will create something that I might not even like but at least I know that I have tried.
