30/09/2015 - Seminar
In this seminar, the key word was Genealogy which is tracing back to the past and connecting the past to the present like a family tree or better known as the studies of families and tracing their history.
We also looked at future Genealogies which is taking a condition/scenario and projecting it forward, for example, imagine if one day humans woke up not being able to read written text, how would we communicate?, that was the question that my group asked which was the task we had to do. I was in a group and we had to think of a scenario in response to Future Genealogy, half of us focused on the problems that could occur and the other half thought about the solution which I was part of. Some of the solutions were visually display the words using colours like a colour code or using sign language.
I think it was a good exercise because I was given a problem and I had to use my creativity to solve the problem and come up with a solution.
I thought about how I could relate Genealogy to my work and I focused on the words 'tracing back to the past' which made me think about when I research about an artist or a movement, I'm looking at the past and trying to connect it with my present work.
